Glossary ‣ Key terms


A leaf is a sheet of paper.  1 leaf has 2 pages.


The number of individual faces in a product, 
ie. 1 leaf has 2 pages.

Loose Leaf

This is a product supplied as collated individual pages, unbound. 

Drilled Holes

This product is supplied as collated individual pages unbound with holes drilled.

Wiro Bound

Binding method where pages are collated and then bound together with continuous loops of wire.

Canadian Bound

As with Wiro Binding but with a wrap around cover with a spine. The wire feeds through the contents.

Saddle Stitched

Binding method where sections are collated inside each other and then stapled together.

Saddle Glued

Binding method where sections are collated inside each other and then glued down the spine.

Perfect Bound

Binding method where loose pages are collated and a cover is glued on with a square spine.

PUR Bound

As with Perfect Binding but using a more aggressive latex based glue. Used for binding coated stocks.

Matt laminated

A laminated finish that is not glossy.

Gloss laminated

A laminated finish with a high sheen.
